The Event

Is BuckeyeThon just dancing?

BuckeyeThon is not just dancing. The event has basketball, cornhole, video games, ping pong, dodgeball, board games, cards and other group activities and sports. We also provide food. BuckeyeThon also brings in different entertainment acts. Acts in the past have included Brutus Buckeye and the Ohio State cheerleaders, the Ohio State Dance Team and Stylz Dance Team. We promise there will be something for everyone!

What should I wear to BuckeyeThon?

It is advisable that you where loose, comfortable clothing that you can move around in. We encourage you to wear of the color team you are on and to wear tennis shoes. You might also want to pack an extra pair of flip flops or slippers for when your feet get tired. Morale captains also give out prizes to the most spirited dancers, so it never hurts to get creative and spirited with your clothing!

What should I bring to BuckeyeThon?

Since you will be dancing and moving around a lot you don't bring too many belongings. We suggest that you bring an extra shirt, pair of socks, and some personal hygiene items such as deodorant, face wipes, and a toothbrush in case you want to freshen up. Also, don't forget to bring a camera.

Where can I keep my belongings during BuckeyeThon?

We will have a designated area for dancers to place their belongings that will be watched over by security volunteers. Dancers should not put their belongings in the RPAC lockers because lockers are cleared out nightly after the RPAC closes. BuckeyeThon ends after the RPAC closes.

Do I have to stay the whole time or can I leave and come back?

We strongly encourage all dancers to stay for the length of BuckeyeThon. Due to liability purposes, if you choose to leave and come back you will no longer be recognized as a dancer.

Who is considered a dancer? And what is the difference between a dancer and a visitor?

A dancer is someone who has registered, checked in on time and has been present at BuckeyeThon from the start of the event. We do not require dancers to stay for the length of the event, however if dancers leave BuckeyeThon at any time, and wish to come back, they will not longer be considered a dancer and instead be considered a visitor. Visitors are allowed to participate in activities at BuckeyeThon, but will not be eligible for food, prizes or raffles.

Can I come late to BuckeyeThon?

You can come late to BuckeyeThon, however, you will not be considered a dancer, and therefore no longer eligible for food provided at the event, raffles or prizes. Again, this is due to liability purposes.

My friend and I got assigned to different color teams. Will I still be able to hang out with them at the event?

Sure! By no means are you restricted to only hanging out with people on your own color team. You will have to be separated during games, but other than that, you are free to hang out with whomever you wish.

Can my friends come to visit me at BuckeyeThon?

Of course! Tell all your friends that you are participating in BuckeyeThon and that you will need their support to get through the night! We will have visiting hours posted for when your friends and family can come. Also, having your friends come might motivate them to get involved with BuckeyeThon next year!

Do I have to stand the entire time?

We ask dancers to stand the entire time as a reminder of the physical challenges children with terminal illnesses face everyday. However, we understand that some dancers may have certain conditions that might prevent them from doing so. If this is the case, please email our dancer relations chair Jordan Radunz.2@osu.edu and she can work to make necessary accommodations.

When do we eat?

Dancers will be served two meals. Snacks will also be served throughout the event.

In order to be guaranteed a t-shirt, make sure you register before the priority deadline and pay your registration fee. A week before BuckeyeThon, you will assigned a check-in time to arrive at BuckeyeThon. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you arrive at this time to ensure that you receive the correct t-shirt size and color. If for some reason you cannot make it to your assigned check-in time, try to get to the RPAC at least 30 minutes before the start of BuckeyeThon.
