As Thanksgiving approaches, we reflect on all the good in our lives. Dominic, a BuckeyeThon kid, writes of the many things he is grateful for this Thanksgiving, along with his favorite foods and some cool information he has learned about the holiday.
"My name is Dominic Clarke and I am seven years old. In the summer of 2013 I was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia I was only 5 at the time so it was pretty scary for me. I have been on treatment for 2 years and have one more year left of Blood Draws, Chemo and Spinal Taps. This is my first year participating in BuckeyeThon and my family and I are so excited. I am a second grade student at Tarhe Trails Elementary School in Lancaster. I enjoy playing with friends, video games, Legos and being outside.
It is November and with that comes fall, family fun and Thanksgiving. I have learned some of the history about Thanksgiving in school. I think it is cool that the Pilgrims were brave enough to come to America on the Mayflower. If I were a pilgrim on the Mayflower I would not have liked the smelly conditions on the boat.
It is hard to think of just one thing I am thankful for since my family and I are so blessed to live in America where we have so many things and Freedom. If I were to pick just a few things they would be...
I have an amazing family! I live with my mom, dad and my three year old twin siblings Savannah and Isaiah. We have a pet named Daisy but she lives at my Grandma and Grandpa's house since I was diagnosed with Leukemia. I love playing and having sleepovers with my cousins Corinne, Lydia, John, Katie and Elijah.
I am so thankful for food, Especially Steak! I love eating Ribeye steak and Chicken Legs. I am Thankful that our family can enjoy yummy food all of the time.
I am also Thankful for my friends. I have some really good friends that like to play Minecraft, Legos and other things with me. Their names are Canaan, Collin, Evan, Samuel and Caleb.
I am so Thankful for God because I can pray to him when I am scared or nervous. I love going to church and learning about God and hanging out with my friends at church. I like being around my family at Thanksgiving time. I enjoy eating Turkey Legs, Noodles and Dessert. I am so Thankful for all of the support we get from organizations like BuckeyeThon and the amazing care we get at Nationwide Children's Hospital! I hope you have a great Thanksgiving and I can't wait for my favorite time of year right after Thanksgiving: Christmas :-)"
