BuckeyeThon BuckeyeThon

High School Program

Through this leadership development opportunity, high school students will strive to meet two goals: to raise funds and awareness for the Hematology/Oncology/BMT Unit at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and to foster a spirit of philanthropy within their school community.

Similar to the model used by BuckeyeThon on our own campus, we encourage High School students to fundraise throughout the year and host a culminating, celebratory event (such as a dance marathon, pep rally, or community event) to motivate students and help accomplish their goals.

“A unique characteristic of our program is that we allow students to be creative and develop any kind of event that will have a positive impact on their school, their community, and the kids and families supported by Nationwide Children’s Hospital.”

– Vick Chhabria (former BuckeyeThon President)

We suggest that students consider the following criteria:

Emphasis on the Cause

  • Though events themselves can be any type of fundraiser or celebration, the kids at Nationwide Children’s Hospital should be the main focus! This should be done not only through marketing, but also the programming of the event itself.

Active Participation

  • A dance marathon is symbolic – we are stand For The Kids at Nationwide Children’s Hospital who can’t. For this reason, we encourage schools to plan events that keep attendees on their feet, if possible, and, more importantly, engaged with the cause throughout the event.

Community Involvement

  • The best way to increase awareness is to involve your community in this fundraising effort. This could range from planning a separate community fundraiser to getting local businesses involved via monetary donations.

How will BuckeyeThon support us?

BuckeyeThon provides every partnering school with a Mentor who works with the student leaders at your school. This Mentor will not only to help with fundraising and event-planning, but will work with students to foster personal and professional development through participation with BuckeyeThon. We will also provide all of the same resources we use to fundraise at Ohio State.
