Hannah

Birthday: June 13
Diagnosis: Osteosarcoma

Hannah’s Story

Before her diagnosis, Hannah was a very active and sporty 10-year-old. At the start of her 2024 season with her youth running club, she began experiencing knee pain. What seemed like a sports injury led her family to Nationwide Children’s Hospital sports medicine clinic. Imaging revealed something far more serious—a tumor between her knee and tibia that was diagnosed as osteosarcoma.

Hannah immediately began chemotherapy and, after 10 weeks, underwent surgery to remove the tumor and reconstruct her knee and tibia with a metal implant. The surgery was a success, and Hannah has worked hard on regaining mobility and independence. Following surgery, she endured additional rounds of inpatient chemotherapy but found joy in her hospital stays thanks to the strong friendships she built with her care teams. Throughout her journey, she embraced the mantra: “never lose your sparkle.”

Today, Hannah has completed treatment and is doing great! She continues physical therapy for mobility with her implant and has regular checkups with the limb clinic and oncology team. While she may not return to the same competitive sports she once loved, Hannah is excited to return to an active lifestyle.
